What exactly Is Account Service?

Welcome readers to my first post and something I have been thinking about doing for quite some time!  More about that later in more exciting posts, however this one is just kind of an overarching review of what I plan on growing in the months to come.

The following information is for us lonely account service peeps.  From those VPs and Directors of Accounts all the way to those beginning out Assistant Account Executives, this post and much of this blog will be for you!

How many times, has your family or friends ask you what it is you actually do and you really sit there for a moment and then think to yourself....what is the point...no one really understands unless they do it!  I know this all too well, I have literally told my mother the same story every time she asks, and although I know she just wants to dote on me to her friends, my explanations always just turn out too complicated for her to understand.  So now, a she has gotten the picture, and as I get new clients, she just says, "So, you are doing the same thing for these people as you did before"? I just nod and then cringe, because no one understand what we actually do and when/if they ever do they regret ever asking us to explain.

I have always loved account service, I love people, I love making them happy and I love providing them with the tools to do what they need to do in a better way.  And, boy have I made a lot of long-life friends and colleagues along the way.  Also so enemies, and usually those are because they just know I am good at my job and it makes them insecure.

Being able to handle accounts and clients and your own internal teams is something of a learned skill.  Being able to make everyone happy, at the expense of no one, is a thankless job.  When was the last time you saw an award for the "Account Director"?  It usually goes to the creatives or the strategist or accolades to the business development team.  When an account person gets any kind of praise, it is along with everyone else.

This infuriates me!  Why?  Because without us, the whole ship would sink, usually in a day!
